You need to know the Good, the Bad & the Ugly of Professional Massage Therapy.
All of my past and present clients can best be described as falling into one of three different categories.
  1. The GOOD Clients
  2. The BAD Clients
  3. and The UGLY Clients

The GOOD Clients

The Good Clients have a healthy awareness of themselves as well as the positive advantages offered by a professional Registered Massage Therapist. The benefit they receive from Massage Therapy greatly assists them in relieving the stress and strains brought about by our fast-paced, hectic lifestyles.

They call to make an appointment – often setting a standard time each week – and they take the time and effort to MAKE the scheduled appointment, or they call the day before to cancel or re-schedule the appointment if a conflict arises. They understand that the really great Massage Therapists (you know, the ones with the magic hands) are hard to find professionals who are due a common courtesy in return for professional services rendered.

They easily communicate what they are after and what they want so I can adjust my method to achieve the results intended.

They pay in full upon completion of the services rendered. And they tell their good friends and neighbors about a certain Massage Therapist who could really assist them in a positive manner.

I look forward to working with Good Clients. It's a two-way street in that my clients get just as much out of our time together as I do. You see, when you really look forward to being a Massage Therapist and you are really good at it, working with Good Clients makes the entire time, energy and effort expended well worth it; I get to do something I like to do, something I have trained long and hard to master, something that has a positive impact on my Good Clients and I get paid reasonable compensation for my efforts.

The BAD Clients

It's simple to define the BAD Clients. They make appointments, but don't show up on time or have the common courtesy to call to let me know they can't make it. Or they show up late and are unable to pay for the services rendered, or their check is returned stamped NSF from my bank. Rather than to plan ahead, they call at the last minute and demand immediate relief.

Simply put, BAD Clients have BAD Attitudes that make everyone uncomfortable, more stressed out and no amount of compensation can make it acceptable.

The UGLY Clients

Yes, there is an UGLY side of the Therapeutic Massage business. Actually, from time to time, I get phone calls from a "new client" who wants to schedule an appointment for professional services that are simply not a service in which I or any other professional Registered Massage Therapist would engage.

These UGLY Clients are simply unable or unwilling to determine that there is a vast difference between a Registered Massage Therapist and a prostitute. I didn't become a professional Registered Massage Therapist to have to deal with sicko perverts. And that is why I wouldn't hesitate to immediately call the appropriate law enforcement agency to stop by and scrape that pile of manure out of my office and dump it back in to the cess pool where it belongs.

The short version if you are an UGLY Client: Don't even waste your time or my time.

So what kind of client are YOU???
